Thailand November Inflation Rate Below Estimates
Thailand's annual inflation rate rose to 0.21 percent in November 2019 from a near 2-1/2-year low of of 0.11 in October but less than market consensus of 0.34 percent. Food prices rose the least in ten months (1.5 percent vs 2.2 percent in October) and inflation slowed slightly for housing & furnishing (0.3 percent vs 0.4 percent). In addition, cost of transport & communication fell further (-2 percent vs -3.4 percent). Meanwhile, inflation was unchanged for recreation & education (at 0.8 percent), while cost of apparel & footwear rebounded (0.3 percent vs -0.3 percent). For 2019, the central bank expects headline inflation to average between 0.7-1 percent, compared with the Bank of Thailand's estimate of 0.8 percent. Core consumer prices, which exclude raw food and energy, increased by 0.47 percent, matching consensus. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.13 percent in November, after a 0.16 percent drop in October.

Thailand Inflation Rate at Over 2-Year Low
Thailand's annual inflation rate fell to 0.11 percent in October 2019 from 0.32 percent in September and below market expectations of 0.31 percent. This was the lowest rate since June 2017, as food prices rose the least in six months (2.2 percent vs 2.5 percent). In addition, cost fell further for both transport & communication (-3.4 percent vs -2.9 percent) and apparel & footwear (-0.3 percent vs -0.3 percent). In contrast, cost rose slightly faster for both housing & furnishing (0.4 percent vs 0.3 percent), and recreation & education (0.8 percent vs 0.7 percent). For 2019, the central bank expects headline inflation to average between 0.7-1 percent, compared with the Bank of Thailand's estimate of 0.8 percent. Core consumer prices, which exclude raw food and energy, rose 0.44 percent, matching consensus. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.16 percent in October, after a 0.1 percent rise in September.

This was the lowest inflation rate since January, as food prices rose the least in five months (2.5% vs 2.6% in August), with cost of recreation & education were little-changed (0.7% vs 0.8%). In addition, prices fell faster for both transport & communication (-2.9 percent vs -2.2 percent) and apparel & footwear (-0.3% vs -0.1%). In contrast, inflation was unchanged for the third straight month for housing & furnishing (at 0.3 percent) . For 2019, the central bank expects headline inflation to be between 0.7-1% and compared with the Bank of Thailand's estimate of 0.8%. Core consumer prices, which exclude raw food and energy, rose 0.44 percent, compared to estimates of 0.43 percent and following a 0.49 percent gain in July. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.1 percent, after a 0.19 percent fall in August.

Thailand Inflation Rate at 7-Month Low of 0.52% in August
Thailand's annual inflation rate fell to 0.52 percent in August 2019 from 0.98 percent in July and well below market expectations of 0.85 percent. This was the lowest inflation rate since January, with food inflation hitting its lowest in four months (2.6% vs 3.5% in July). In addition, prices fell for both transport & communication (-2.2 percent vs -1.3 percent) and apparel & footwear (-0.1% vs flat reading). In contrast, inflation was unchanged for housing & furnishing (at 0.3 percent), while cost rose slightly faster for recreation & education (0.8% vs 0.7%). For 2019, the central bank expects headline inflation to be between 0.8-0.9% and compared with the Bank of Thailand's estimate of 1.0%. Core consumer prices, which exclude raw food and energy, rose 0.49 percent, above estimates of 0.44 percent. It marked the highest figure in three months. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.19 percent, after a 0.06 percent gain in July.

Thailand Inflation Rate Rises to 1% in July
Thailand's annual inflation rate rose to 1 percent in July 2019 from a four-month low of 0.87 percent in June, as food & non-alcoholic beverages prices rose the most since September 2014 (3.5 percent vs 3.1 percent in June). Additional upward pressure came from recreation & education (0.7 percent vs 0.8 percent) and housing & furnishing (0.3 percent, the same as in June). Prices of apparel & footwear and tobacco & alcoholic beverages were both unchanged, while cost fell for transport & communication (-1.3 percent vs -1.6 percent), medical & personal care (-0.9 percent vs 0.1 percent). For 2019, the central bank expects headline inflation at 1 percent. Core consumer prices, which exclude raw food and energy, rose 0.41 percent, missing market estimates of 0.5 percent. It was the lowest figure since March 2010. On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.06 percent, after a 0.36 percent fall in June.

Thailand Inflation Rate Hits 4-Month Low in June
Thailand's annual inflation rate fell to 0.87 percent in June 2019 from 1.15 percent in May and below market consensus of 1.1 percent. Prices fell for transport & communication (-1.6 percent vs 0.1 percent in May) and apparel & footwear (-0.2 percent vs 0.1 percent). Also, cost of medical & personal care slowed (0.1 percent vs 0.2 percent). Meanwhile, inflation was steady for housing & furnishing (at 0.3 percent, the same as in May); and prices rose further for food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.1 percent vs 2.8 percent), its highest since December 2014; recreation & education (0.8 percent vs 0.3 percent). For 2019, the central bank expects headline inflation at 1 percent. Core consumer prices, which exclude raw food and energy, rose 0.48 percent, easing from a 0.54 percent gain in May, less than estimates of 0.51 percent. It was the lowest figure since August 2017. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.36 percent, after a 0.48 percent rise in May.
