East Timor Inflation Rate at 32-Month Low in November
East Timor's annual inflation rate fell to a 32-month low of 0.3 percent in November 2019 from 0.6 in the prior month. Cost of food & non-alcoholic beverages rose less (0.5% vs 0.7% in October), driven by vegetables (8.9%), fruits (3.9%), and milk, cheese and eggs (0.6%). Also, prices of clothing & footwear were flat, following a 0.4 gain in October. At the same time, prices fell further for housing (-0.2% vs -0.8%), furniture & household equipment (-0.9% vs -0.9%), and transport (-0.7% vs -0.5%). On the other hand, inflation was unchanged for alcohol & tobacco (at 1.3%), while cost of recreation & culture went up faster (0.3% vs 0.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.1 percent in November, after a 0.4 percent drop in October.

East Timor Inflation Rate at 3-Month Low at 0.6%
East Timor's annual inflation rate declined to 0.6 percent in October 2019 from 1.0 percent in the previous month. This was the lowest inflation since July, as prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages increased softer (0.7% vs 1.6% in September), mainly driven by vegetables (9.0%), fruits (4.7%), cheese and eggs (4.4%). Also, prices rose less for clothing & footwear (0.4% vs 0.6%). In addition, prices fell for housing (-0.8 vs 0.6%), while furniture & household equipment prices decreased more (-0.9% vs -0.6%). On the other hand, prices increased faster for alcohol & tobacco (1.3 vs 0.9%), while inflation was unchanged for recreation & culture (at 0.2%). Meantime, prices fell further for transport (-0.5%, the same pace as in September). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.4 percent in October compared to a 0.2 percent rise in the prior month.

East Timor Inflation Rate at 7-Month High of 1%
East Timor's annual inflation rate inched higher to 1.0 percent in September 2019 from 0.9 percent in the previous month. This was the highest inflation since March, as prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages increased faster (1.6% vs 1.2% in August), mainly driven by vegetables (1.8% ), bread and cereals (2.2%), coffee, tea and cocoa (1.7%), and fruits (1.6%). Also, prices rose more for both clothing & footwear (0.6% vs 0.4%) and alcohol & tobacco (0.9% vs 0.7%). Meantime, inflation was unchanged for housing (at 0.6%); recreation & culture (at 0.2%). On the other hand, prices fell further for transport (-0.5% vs -0.3%), and furniture & household equipment (-0.6% vs -0.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.2 percent in September compared to a 0.1 percent rise in August.

East Timor Inflation Rate Rises to 0.9% in August
East Timor's annual inflation rate rose to 0.9 percent in August 2019 from 0.6 percent in the previous month. Prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages increased faster (1.2% vs 0.7% in July), mainly milk & cheese (6.1% vs 6.9%), vegetables (7.2% vs 5.5%), and meat (1.1% vs 1.2%). At the same time, there was a rebound in cost of recreation & culture (0.2% vs -0.2%), while inflation was unchanged for clothing & footwear (at 0.4%). Meantime, cost went up slightly less for both alcohol & tobacco (0.7% vs 0.8%), and housing (0.6% vs 0.7%). Also, prices fell for both transport (-0.3 percent vs a flat reading in a month earlier), and furniture & household equipment (-0.4% vs -0.5%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.1 percent in August compared to a 0.2 percent fall in July.

East Timor Inflation Rate at Near 2-Year Low of 0.6%
East Timor's annual inflation rate fell to 0.6 percent in July 2019 from 0.9 percent in the previous month. This was the lowest inflation rate since September 2017, as cost of food & non-alcoholic beverages rose at a softer 0.7% (vs 1% in June), mainly milk & cheese (6.9% vs 7.8%), vegetables (5.5% vs 5.6%), and meat (1.2% vs 2.2%). Also, prices went up much less for alcohol & tobacco (0.8% vs 2.5%). At the same time, transport prices was flat, following a 0.7 percent gain in June. In addition, cost dropped further for both furniture & household equipment (-0.5% vs -0.5%) and recreation & culture (-0.2% vs -0.2%). In contrast, inflation was unchanged for housing (at 0.7%), while cost of clothing & footwear rose faster (0.4% vs 0.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices declined 0.2 percent in July, compared to a flat reading in June.

East Timor Inflation Rate at 3-Month High of 0.9% in June
East Timor's annual inflation rate edged up to 0.9 percent in June 2019 from 0.8 percent in the previous month. This was the highest inflation rate since March, as prices rose faster for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.0 percent vs 0.7 percent in May), mainly vegetables (5.6 percent vs 4.1 percent) and meat (2.2 percent vs 2.0 percent); and for alcohol & tobacco (2.5 percent vs 2.4 percent). On the other hand, cost slowed for transport (0.7 percent vs 1.7 percent) and housing (0.7 percent vs 0.8 percent) while inflation was unchanged for the third month in a row for clothing & footwear (at 0.2 percent). In addition, furniture & household equipment cost continued to decline (-0.5 percent vs -0.4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat in June, after a 0.1 percent rise in the previous month.
